How Breeding Works in Palworld

Put two Pals of opposite gender in a Breeding Farm, drop a Cake in the feed box, and they produce an egg you hatch in an Egg Incubator. The pairing decides the child and nothing else does — parent level, stats and capture order are irrelevant to which species comes out.

Two rules cover almost every result. A named unique combo always wins if the pair has one; otherwise the child is whichever species sits closest to the average of the two parents' breed ranks. That is why wildly mismatched parents give a middling result rather than the rarer of the two.

The farm is a level 19 unlock. It costs 2 Technology Points in the tech tree, then builds from 50 Fiber, 20 Stone and 10 Wooden Board — cheap enough that there is no reason to put it off once the level lands. One farm holds one pair, so a serious breeding line means several of them side by side.

The cake you bake decides what you are farming for. All five go in the same feed box and any of them produces an egg, but four of them bend the result. Mushroom Cake makes the child's talents grow more easily; Vegetable Cake lays two eggs at once, which is the value pick for bulk sessions; Extravagant Vegetable Cake raises the odds of a mutation on top of the talent growth; and Special Cake is the one that makes multiple parent passives more likely to carry over — bake it once you are chasing a full four-passive set rather than a species. Recipes and unlock tiers for all five are in the cake guide.

Two levers cut the waiting. On the base side, the Egg Hatching branch of researchholds eight Incubation Acceleration levels — four on the fire line and four on the cool line, worth +5% or +10% hatching speed each. On the Pal side, the worker you park on the farm matters: Philanthropistdoubles breeding speed there outright, and Babysitter adds +30% to egg production and +30% to incubation. Check for either before you assign whichever Pal happens to be idle.

Breeding is mainly a passive-skill machine. Most species can simply be caught, so the reason to breed is to pass down a better set of four passives, or to reach the handful of Pals that have no wild habitat at all. Use the path finder above when you know the Pal you want but not the chain that reaches it.
