Sword

Weapon · WeaponMelee4

A properly keen blade for close-range fighting — more use in a scrap than a pen, at any rate. Crafted at a Weapon Workbench.

Sword is 27th of 79 melee weapons by attack, at 540 against the 2,400 of Laser Sword.

It feeds no other recipe, which makes it a terminal item: craft what you will actually carry and stop there.

At 10 weight each it eats carry capacity fast, so bring a mount or park a chest nearby. At 21,820 gold it is worth real money to a merchant.

Where to Find Sword

The recipe is not on the Technology tree — it is locked behind a schematic you have to find first. The best single source is treasure map digs (tier 1) at 0.3% per container, and the table below lists every tier and where each one drops.

A crate is something you stumble on; a treasure map is something you queue, and tier 1 digs are barely behind the camp route. A dig pays the Legendary copy 0.256% of the time, Schematic 3 at 0.641% and Schematic 2 at 1.603%, and since five of any grade fuse into the one above, that adds up to 0.448% of a finished Legendary per hole — roughly 223 digs against the 189 Desert crates. It keeps pace despite the smaller headline number because the dig pool skips Schematic 1 outright and steps two and a half times between grades instead of five, so almost nothing it hands you is the bottom rung you would need 125 of. Maps are not the throttle either: a Grasslands camp boss stash pays one on 40% of clears and a Forest stash on 35%, with grade 5 chests in the Desert and on Mount Obsidian at 20%, Snowfields chests at 12.5% and a Mount Obsidian dungeon technology-book stand at 10.101%.

You never have to leave the Forest for this sword. Four Forest pools stock all four grades of the schematic: camp loot crates work out at 0.417% of a Legendary each, about 240 containers; ordinary chests and plain fishing both 0.307%, about 326; camp boss stashes 0.180%, about 555. That puts the Forest crate run about 27% behind the Desert camps per container and in a far gentler region, and the boss you clear on the way out of a Forest camp is the same one paying tier 1 maps a third of the time — one loop stocks the crate route and the dig route together. Forest supply drops carry the whole ladder as well, but at 0.166% a crate in Legendary terms they are a trickle to collect in passing, not a plan.

Using Sword Well

Once the boards and ingots are unpacked the bill is 122 Copper Ore, 63 Wood and 40 Stone — starter-tier gathering — plus two Ancient Civilization Parts, and those are not the gate they look like: 288 alphas drop them on a guaranteed roll, one or two off the smallest and eight or nine off the late-game ones, so a single alpha you can already beat covers the craft with spares. The schematic hunt is the entire real price here. Two things at the bench: the order books 1,600,000 work, 32 times the plain Sword, so it wants your best craft-speed Pals and a walk away rather than a stand-and-wait; and the schematic has to be sitting in your own inventory when you open the menu, because parked in a base chest it takes the Legendary option off the list entirely.

Every Tier of Sword

The same piece exists at 5 rarities, and the gap is not cosmetic: attack runs 360 to 540, a 1.5x swing. Which one you end up with is decided by the rarity of the schematic you built from, not by the recipe — so a legendary copy of this is worth more than the next item up built from a common one.

Schematics That Unlock Sword

The Technology tree hands you the plain Sword at level 29 for 2 Technology points, but nothing above that base version — the rarer builds are schematic-only. One schematic grants the recipe, and they are world loot — chests, boss Pals and the late-game pools — rather than anything you research. Higher-rarity copies of the same schematic raise the quality of what you end up crafting.

Fastest route. The fastest route is enemy camp loot in the Desert, and the reason is the ladder rather than the top rung: that pool stocks every tier, so the common copies it hands you fuse upward into the one you want. Counting them, a top-tier Sword schematic works out at roughly 189 containers against the 391 the 4★ drop rate alone suggests. Spare low tiers are progress, not clutter. Schematics fuse five-to-one, so a lower tier with better odds can beat the top tier outright. Counts are containers of that source, not time.

Alternatives and Upgrades

Excalibur matches it exactly at 540 attack — those two differ in what they resist and what they weigh, not in raw attack, so picking between them is a swap rather than an upgrade. The next real step is Terra Blade at 552; below it is Terra Blade at 510.
