Ancient Helm

Armor · ArmorHead4

A Soralite Ingot helm carrying wisdom handed down across the ages, guarding its wearer with unwavering strength. It outclasses anything modern gear can offer defensively.

Ancient Helm is the strongest head piece in the game by defense, at 650.

Wearing it also carries the effects Neutral Damage Reduction Lv. 1, Dragon Damage Reduction Lv. 1, which matters more than the raw numbers in the biomes that punish you for the wrong outfit.

It feeds no other recipe, which makes it a terminal item: craft what you will actually carry and stop there.

At 15 weight each it eats carry capacity fast, so bring a mount or park a chest nearby. At 1,874,040 gold it is worth real money to a merchant.

Ancient Helm Crafting Recipe

Work: 16000000

Crafting it takes 54 materials across 3 types, and the bottleneck is almost always the 40× requirement — line that up first and the rest follows.

Where to Find Ancient Helm

The recipe is not on the Technology tree — it is locked behind a schematic you have to find first. The best single source is treasure map digs (tier 5) at 0.3% per container, and the table below lists every tier and where each one drops.

Every schematic that leads here sits on Sunreach Isle or falls out of a tier 5 treasure map, and five copies fuse into one of the grade above, so the honest unit is finished Legendaries per container rather than the raw Legendary line. Ranked that way: Sunreach Isle supply drops 0.559%, about 179 drops; a tier 5 map dig 0.520%, about 192 digs; fishing the isle 0.221%, 453 casts; its enemy camp loot 0.197%, 508; ordinary chests there 0.153%, 656; its treasure chests 0.150%, 667; camp boss stashes 0.119%, 838; and the isle's fishing treasure spots 0.041%, roughly 2,436. Two things fall out of that list. Fishing beats every chest on the island, which makes this the rare endgame schematic with a route that involves no fighting and no digging. And the treasure chests are not the upgrade their name promises — their Uncommon line flatlines at 1.17% instead of stepping up, where an ordinary chest pays 4.771%, so the two containers are worth the same and detouring for the fancier one gains nothing.

A camp clear beats every single container, because the stash pays twice. Enemy camp boss stashes on Sunreach Isle hand over a tier 5 treasure map on 100% of clears, so one camp is its loot at 0.197%, its stash at 0.119% and a guaranteed dig at 0.520% — 0.836% of a finished Legendary, near enough 120 camps, against 179 supply drops for the next best thing going. The dig is also the one pool that breaks the five-to-one pattern: it steps two and a half to one and never pays the Uncommon grade at all, so its floor is two rungs higher than a chest's and the direct Legendary roll alone carries 57% of what a dig is worth. Maps are not Sunreach-locked either. Ordinary chests on the isle carry one at 5%, which quietly lifts a chest sweep to 0.179% a container, the technology-book stands in the Viking ruins pay 10.101%, and sea base camp boss stashes on Feybreak and Sakurajima give one on every clear — so the map half of the route can be stockpiled anywhere and dug anywhere.

Using Ancient Helm Well

Do not hold the resistances hostage to the top roll. All five grades of Ancient Helm carry the same Neutral and Dragon damage reduction, and this family is the only head gear in the game that carries two element resistances at once — no hat, mask or lesser helm has a second line. What the grade buys is bulk and lifespan: 500 defence and 1,200 HP at the base against 650 and 1,560 here, and durability from 25,000 to 100,000. So a Common built the day you unlock it already gives the full defensive profile, and the Legendary is the copy you stop replacing rather than the copy that finally works.

The head slot ends here, and it ends earlier than the body does. Ancient Helm unlocks at level 68 for 5 Technology Points — not boss points — and no Cold, Heat or Lightweight variant of it exists, so unlike Ancient Armor there is nothing at Technology 75 to 79 that supersedes it and no reason to bank points against a later head piece. The gap it opens is the biggest in the slot: 650 defence against 455 on a Legendary Hexolite Helmet, the next best thing in the game, and 1,560 HP against 1,040, for the same 15 weight. Budget the pair together while the Ancient Workbench is up — this piece wants 40 Soralite Ingot, 5 AI Core and 9 Ancient Civilization Parts, and a matching Legendary Ancient Armor adds 60, 6 and 9, so a full ancient set is one 100-ingot smelting run, 11 cores and 18 Parts.

Every Tier of Ancient Helm

The same piece exists at 5 rarities, and the gap is not cosmetic: defense runs 500 to 650, a 1.3x swing. Which one you end up with is decided by the rarity of the schematic you built from, not by the recipe — so a legendary copy of this is worth more than the next item up built from a common one.

Schematics That Unlock Ancient Helm

The Technology tree hands you the plain Ancient Helm at level 68 for 5 Technology points, but nothing above that base version — the rarer builds are schematic-only. One schematic grants the recipe, and they are world loot — chests, boss Pals and the late-game pools — rather than anything you research. Higher-rarity copies of the same schematic raise the quality of what you end up crafting.

Fastest route. The fastest route is treasure map digs (tier 5), and the reason is the ladder rather than the top rung: that pool stocks every tier, so the common copies it hands you fuse upward into the one you want. Counting them, a top-tier Ancient Helm schematic works out at roughly 192 containers against the 337 the 4★ drop rate alone suggests. Spare low tiers are progress, not clutter. Schematics fuse five-to-one, so a lower tier with better odds can beat the top tier outright. Counts are containers of that source, not time.

Alternatives and Upgrades

Nothing in the head piece class beats it on defense. The next one down is Ancient Helm at 600, so if you are still using that, this is the upgrade worth the materials.
