Using Cold Resistant Refined Metal Armor Well

The technology behind this armor line unlocks at Level 41 for 4 Technology Points. One research covers every rarity of the piece; the legendary schematic only raises the tier you are allowed to build, so you still need the tech before this version appears in a crafting menu.

It cannot be made from the hand-crafting menu at all. Queue it on a Production Assembly Line or anything above it — Production Assembly Line II, the Advanced Workshop, or the Ancient Workbench.

The legendary build order carries exactly twice the work value of the rare one, so it is a genuinely long craft. Park your best Handiwork Pals on the line before you start rather than after.

Alongside Cold Resistance Lv. 2 it carries Heat Resistance Lv. 1, so a run through the frozen north that runs into a hot daytime stretch no longer forces a mid-trip armor swap. The heat rating only covers mild warmth, though — the volcano still wants [[item:IronArmorHeat_5]].

Ice Damage Reduction Lv. 1 is built in, which trims what Ice-element attacks take off you. That matters most in the same snowfields the cold rating is for, where the local bosses hit with Ice.

This tier also grants the strongest shot attack bonus on any Refined Metal chest piece — +12 to shot attack, against +9 on the rare version. Upgrading from the rare tier is an offensive gain as well as a defensive one, which is unusual for armor.
