Ancient Armor
Armor · ArmorBody4★Armor forged out of Soralite Ingot using the know-how of a civilization long gone. Its defense runs high enough to hold up against cataclysmic threats.
Ancient Armor is 4th of 145 body armours by defense, at 1,040 against the 1,092 of Cold-Resistant Ancient Armor.
Wearing it also carries the effects Cold Resistance Lv. 2, Heat Resistance Lv. 2, Attack Up (S) Lv. 4, which matters more than the raw numbers in the biomes that punish you for the wrong outfit.
It feeds no other recipe, which makes it a terminal item: craft what you will actually carry and stop there.
Details
At 40 weight each it eats carry capacity fast, so bring a mount or park a chest nearby. At 2,350,370 gold it is worth real money to a merchant.
Ancient Armor Crafting Recipe
Crafting it takes 75 materials across 3 types, and the bottleneck is almost always the 60× requirement — line that up first and the rest follows.
Where to Find Ancient Armor
The recipe is not on the Technology tree — it is locked behind a schematic you have to find first. The best single source is treasure map digs (tier 5) at 0.3% per container, and the table below lists every tier and where each one drops.
Every route to this schematic either sits on Sunreach Isle or comes out of a tier 5 treasure map, and the order the raw Legendary rates suggest is not the order worth farming in. Five copies fuse into one of the grade above, so the unit that means anything is finished Legendaries per container: Sunreach Isle supply drops 0.559%, roughly 179 drops; a tier 5 map dig 0.520%, about 192 digs; the isle's enemy camp loot 0.296%, 338; its treasure chests 0.249%, 401; fishing there 0.221%, 453; its ordinary chests 0.153%, 656; camp boss stashes 0.119%, 838; and the fishing treasure spots 0.055%, around 1,806. Supply drops look half as good as a dig if you read only the Legendary line — 0.14% against 0.297% — and still finish ahead of it, because every Sunreach pool climbs an exact five-to-one ladder that makes all four grades worth precisely the same. Nothing you pull out of them is filler.
The dig pool is the one break in that pattern and the reason a camp clear beats any container. It climbs two and a half to one and never pays the Uncommon grade, so the direct Legendary hit alone carries 57% of a dig's value. The map is also not something you stumble on: an enemy camp boss stash on Sunreach Isle gives up a tier 5 map on every clear, which makes one camp worth its own stash roll plus a guaranteed dig — about 0.639% of a finished Legendary, near enough 157 camps — before counting the loot containers you opened on the way in at 0.296% each. Sea base camp bosses on Feybreak and Sakurajima hand over tier 5 maps on 100% of clears too, and Sakurajima land camps on half, so maps can be stockpiled a long way from the isle and dug anywhere. The schematic pools are Sunreach-locked; the dig is not.
If instances suit you better than camps, Sunreach Skies feeds the same 0.062% treasure-chest pool, so that route keeps paying instead of drying up the way a swept overworld chest does. Its enemies and bosses run level 65 to 69, which is where you will be standing anyway when the armour unlocks.
Using Ancient Armor Well
Build this rather than holding out for one of the specialised schematics. The Cold, Heat and Lightweight Legendaries all reach 1,092 defence against this piece's 1,040, but they are locked behind Technology 75, 77 and 79 while plain Ancient Armor opens at 68 for 5 Ancient Technology Points — meaning a Legendary built here is the best body armour in the game for the next seven levels, and nothing at all is available in that window otherwise. The three of them are also forged from Paloxite Ingot, so chasing one commits you to a second metal chain, where this piece runs on the same 60 Soralite Ingot you were already smelting for the Ancient Workbench that crafts it. The Ancient Civilization Parts bill is 9 either way, and this is the cheapest of the four in AI Cores at 6 against 10, 10 and 14. Fifty-two defence is the entire premium, and it is charged in another region's economy.
Every Tier of Ancient Armor
The same piece exists at 5 rarities, and the gap is not cosmetic: defense runs 800 to 1040, a 1.3x swing. Which one you end up with is decided by the rarity of the schematic you built from, not by the recipe — so a legendary copy of this is worth more than the next item up built from a common one.
| Rarity | Item | Defense | HP | Durability |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0★ | Ancient Armor | 800 | 2400 | 25000 |
| 1★ | Ancient Armor | 880 | 2640 | 37500 |
| 2★ | Ancient Armor | 920 | 2760 | 50000 |
| 3★ | Ancient Armor | 960 | 2880 | 75000 |
| 4★ | Ancient Armor (this one) | 1040 | 3120 | 100000 |
Schematics That Unlock Ancient Armor
The Technology tree hands you the plain Ancient Armor at level 68 for 5 Technology points, but nothing above that base version — the rarer builds are schematic-only. One schematic grants the recipe, and they are world loot — chests, boss Pals and the late-game pools — rather than anything you research. Higher-rarity copies of the same schematic raise the quality of what you end up crafting.
Fastest route. The fastest route is treasure map digs (tier 5), and the reason is the ladder rather than the top rung: that pool stocks every tier, so the common copies it hands you fuse upward into the one you want. Counting them, a top-tier Ancient Armor schematic works out at roughly 192 containers against the 337 the 4★ drop rate alone suggests. Spare low tiers are progress, not clutter. Schematics fuse five-to-one, so a lower tier with better odds can beat the top tier outright. Counts are containers of that source, not time.
| Schematic | Rarity | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| 4★ | Treasure map digs (tier 5), Sunreach Isle camp loot, Sunreach Isle treasure chests +4 more — best 0.3% (grade 5/6) · Supply drops in the Sunreach Isle (0.14%) |
Alternatives and Upgrades
Step up from here and you get Lightweight Ancient Armor at 1,092 defense; step down and it is Cold-Resistant Ancient Armor at 1,008. The size of that step is what decides whether the crafting bill is justified yet.
