Where to Find Applied Cooling Handbook I

If you would rather just buy it, the seller is Medal Shop at 300 Dog Coin.

It also turns up in supply drops — best odds are the Feybreak drops at 8.33%, 1 per crate, with 7 other regions carrying it as well.

It also shows up as world loot — chests in the Grasslands, chests in the Forest and chests in the Desert, and 49 more pools besides, usually 2 at a time. Higher-grade chests carry the better rolls, so the ones guarded by a camp are usually worth the detour.

Digging a treasure map is the best chance in the table, and the map's tier barely matters: tiers 3, 4 and 5 all pay 8.33%, tier 2 pays 5.83% and tier 1 pays 4.17%. There is no reason to hold a high-tier map back for this — dig the tier 3s and keep the good ones for the loot that does scale with tier.

The maps are the part worth farming, and they come off enemy camp bosses rather than out of ordinary chests, which makes this route repeatable instead of a lucky roll. A cleared camp on Sunreach Isle hands over a tier 5 map every single time, as do the sea base camps in Sakurajima and Feybreak; the sea base stashes in the Desert and Snowfields give a tier 3 map on 60% of clears, and the land camps in those two regions on 44% and 47.5%. Since a tier 3 dig is worth as much here as a tier 5, the Desert and Snowfields camps are the shorter trip. The stashes also roll the book directly on the way past — 0.83% at the Feybreak sea bases, well under a tenth of that on land — so the camp run feeds both ends of the loop.
