Gold Key shows up as world loot — chests in the Snowfields, junk hauls while fishing in the Snowfields and crates on the oil rigs, and 33 more pools besides, usually 1–2 at a time. Higher-grade chests carry the better rolls, so the ones guarded by a camp are usually worth the detour.

Chests inside 3 caverns, including Astral Mountains Cavern and Cherry Blossom Cave, can hold it as well.
