Back-throw = hitting the Pal from behind (~1.5× bonus). Each row is the per-throw chance with your current HP and effigy settings.
Tips: weaken the Pal below 50% HP, hit it with its elemental weakness, throw from behind for the back bonus, catch nocturnal Pals at night, and raise Lifmunk Effigies at the Statue of Power to boost every throw.
What Actually Moves Your Capture Odds
Four things decide a throw: the sphere tier, how much health the Pal has left, whether you hit it from behind, and how many Lifmunk Effigies you have handed in at the Statue of Power. The calculator above puts real numbers on each combination so you can see which one is worth changing.
Health is the biggest lever by far. Dropping a Pal to a sliver transforms the odds far more than upgrading a sphere tier does, so the efficient pattern is to fight properly first and throw last. Alphas are deliberately harder than their level suggests, which is why a boss that looks catchable eats a stack of spheres.
Then stack the cheap bonuses. A back throw is worth roughly half again on top of whatever you already have, and effigies raise every single throw for the rest of the save — the one upgrade that compounds.
